25 Spring 2019 Dr. Osborne is survived by his loving family, his wife of 52 years, Nancy Osborne of Libertyville, Ill.; two daughters, Amber (Pastor Cody) Kargus of Rice Lake, Wisc., and Dr. Susanne (Jeff) Calhoun of Libertyville, Ill.; grandchildren, Kaylin Kargus, Autumn Kargus, Nicole Kargus, Grace Kargus, and Eliana Calhoun; brother, David (Donna) Osborne of Detroit, Mich.; brother-in- law, Dave (Renee) Hardy of Reading, Mich.; sisters-in-law, Sue (John) Rockey of Jackson, Mich., Randi (Kevin) Miller of Solsberry, Ind., and Susie Osborne of Columbia City, Ind.; half-brother, Tom (Grace) Costagliola of Staten Island, NY; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dr. Osborne was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Osborne. Correction: The Fall 2018 edition of Bethel magazine made an error in the obituary of Lewis Earl Foster. Lewis served as pastor at the Hudson Wesleyan Church in Hudson, Fla., from 1983-1996. From 1996- 1999, he served as an associate pastor of First Baptist Church in Hudson. and residential apartment buildings, as well as various conceptual designs and land acquisitions. He also did master planning for the college. He served on the Bethel College Board of Trustees from 1989- 1997 and 2001-2009; he was the Vice Chair in 2004, and Chairman of the Board from 2005-2008. He was serving in his third Board term upon his death. Additionally, he served on the Board for the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities, which helped him bring value to the Bethel community. In 2018 he and his wife received the Dr. Stanley Taylor award in appreciation of exceptional volunteer commitement to Bethel College (pictured). Troyer was the founder, chair and president of The Troyer Group in Mishawaka, Ind., a three-generation family business providing national and international architecture, engineering, construction, and planning services. He was the founder of multiple for-profit and nonprofit entities like Environic Foundation International, Southfield Village (an inter-generational community in South Bend), Miracle of Nazareth International Foundation and Eden Energy, to name a few. He designed billions of dollars in value of buildings, land plans, and facilities, including colleges/universities, retirement communities, hospitals, churches, retail buildings, museums, libraries, and themed destinations, including Ark Encounter, a life-size replica of the Biblical Noah’s Ark. He also served on local, national and international boards, and organized Habitat for Humanity building blitzes used globally, as well as helped build thousands of homes all over the world. He earned a degree in architecture from the University of Notre Dame, and was a fellow of the American Institute of Architects. He also served as an elder at Kern Road Mennonite Church. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Phyllis, and three sons, Don, Ron and Terry. 3 Dr. Grant R. Osborne, 76, of Libertyville, Ill., passed away Nov. 4, 2018. He was born on July 7, 1942 in New York, N.Y., to the late Thomas and Evelyn (née Burkett) Osborne. On July 1, 1967 in Fort Wayne, Ind., Grant married the love of his life, Nancy Hardy. Dr. Osborne earned a B.A. from Fort Wayne Bible College, an MA from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and a Ph.D. from the University of Aberdeen. He also did postdoctoral research at the universities of Cambridge and Marburg. In May of 2018 he was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Bethel College. He taught for more than 40 years at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and had strong ties to the Missionary Church, including a longtime connection to the Village Church of Gurnee, a Missionary Church in Illinois. Dr. Osborne was an expert in the Gospels, hermeneutics and the book of Revelation. His published works included The Resurrection Narratives, The Hermeneutical Spiral (a classic text), Three Crucial Questions about the Bible, and numerous biblical commentaries. Dr. Osborne wrote the study notes for James in the ESV Study Bible, coauthored the Handbook for Bible Study and The Bible in the Churches, and was an editor for the IVP New Testament Commentary series, the Life Application Bible commentary series and the New Living Translation.
