3 5 %HFN\ 6DYDJH Š $OXPQD RI WKH <HDU In 2015, the oldest two of Becky and Mike Savage’s four sons, Nick and Jack, died as a UHVXOW RI SUHVFULSWLRQ GUXJ XVH DW D SDUW\ %HFN\ LQ DQ HƂRUW WR KHOS SDUHQWV VWXGHQWV DQG communities address and prevent prescription drug abuse, started the 525 Foundation. As the Savages take this journey to educate others about the opioid crisis and save lives, they take the memory of Nick and Jack with them. The 525 Foundation partners with law enforcement agencies for prescription take-back events and has installed pill drop boxes at local businesses, including Martins Super Markets. Along with other RUJDQL]DWLRQV WKH )RXQGDWLRQ KDV FROOHFWHG RYHU SRXQGV RI SLOOV %HFN\ KDV VSRNHQ DOO RYHU WKH FRXQWU\ DQG HYHQ WHVWLƃHG EHIRUH &RQJUHVV DERXW WKH RSLRLG FULVLV In 2019 the Foundation and Becky herself received several awards. The Foundation was QDPHG Ţ3OD\PDNHU RI WKH <HDUţ E\ WKH .HOO\ &DUHV )RXQGDWLRQ DQG ZDV UHFRJQL]HG E\ the Addiction Policy Forum for addressing opioid addictions. Becky was recognized as the ,QGLDQD 0RWKHU RI WKH <HDU E\ $PHULFDQ 0RWKHUV ,QF DQG ,QGLDQD 8QLYHUVLW\ UHFHQWO\ honored her with the Bicentennial Award. Bethel University is proud to name Becky the 2020 %HWKHO 8QLYHUVLW\ $OXPQD RI WKH <HDU $P\ %DNHU %DGGOH\ Š <RXQJ $OXPQD RI WKH <HDU $P\ FRPSOHWHG KHU %HWKHO GHJUHH ZKLOH LQ :DVKLQJWRQ ' & WKURXJK WKH $PHULFDQ Studies Program, with hopes of kickstarting a public policy career in the nation's capital. That summer, she participated in the American Enterprise Institute's Summer Fellowship SURJUDP EHIRUH DFFHSWLQJ IXOO WLPH HPSOR\PHQW LQ WKH +RXVH RI 5HSUHVHQWDWLYHV )RU three years, she served as a Legislative Assistant for a congressman from Oklahoma DQG FXW KHU WHHWK LQ IHGHUDO SROLF\ OHJLVODWLYH GUD̃LQJ DQG FRQJUHVVLRQDO SURFHGXUH :KHQ KHU KXVEDQG ZDV RƂHUHG WKH RSSRUWXQLW\ WR REWDLQ KLV 0DVWHU V LQ 7KHRORJLFDO 6WXGLHV DW +DUYDUG WKH\ PRYHG WR &DPEULGJH 0DVV DQG VKH DFFHSWHG HPSOR\PHQW DW DWKHQDKHDOWK D KHDOWK WHFKQRORJ\ FRPSDQ\ 6KH ƃUVW VHUYHG DV D 3URGXFW $VVRFLDWH PDQDJLQJ D WHFKQRORJ\ HQDEOHG SK\VLFLDQ ZRUNƄRZ DQG ODWHU WUDQVLWLRQHG WR EHFRPH WKH FRPSDQ\ V *RYHUQPHQW DQG 5HJXODWRU\ $ƂDLUV 6HQLRU $VVRFLDWH ,Q WKLV FDSDFLW\ she used her prior experience in federal policy to advocate for legislation and regulations that promote technological innovation and enable better patient outcomes. Since then, his roles have ranged from working the circulation desk, to EHFRPLQJ FXUDWRU RI ERWK WKH %HWKHO 8QLYHUVLW\ DQG 0LVVLRQDU\ &KXUFK $UFKLYHV +H FXUUHQWO\ serves as Technical Services Librarian, covering reference, serials, catalog, IT and special SURMHFWV +H REWDLQHG KLV XQGHUJUDGXDWH GHJUHH LQ (QJOLVK IURP %HWKHO 8QLYHUVLW\ LQ D 0DVWHU RI $UWV LQ +XPDQLWLHV IURP WKH 8QLYHUVLW\ RI &KLFDJR LQ DQG KLV 0DVWHU RI /LEUDU\ 6FLHQFH IURP ,QGLDQD 8QLYHUVLW\ 3XUGXH 8QLYHUVLW\ ,QGLDQDSROLV LQ .HYLQ LV a diligent worker as he balances the tasks that six individuals typically maintain, making KLP D YDOXDEOH DVVHW WR WKH XQLYHUVLW\ 7KRXJK KH KDV PDQ\ VLJQLƃFDQW DFFRPSOLVKPHQWV KLV ZRUN LQ %HWKHOŠV DQG WKH 0LVVLRQDU\ &KXUFKŠV DUFKLYHV LV FKHULVKHG GHDUO\ +H LV D keeper and collector of history – helping keep the past present in the lives of those who VHHN LW RXW +LV ZRUN HWKLF LV QRW FRQƃQHG WR KLV ZRUN LQ WKH DUFKLYHV KRZHYHU DV KH KDV dabbled in many other professions also, teaching a few classes at the university and aiding LQ LPSRUWDQW UHVHDUFK +H KDV GHGLFDWHG PDQ\ KRXUV WR *RVSHO &HQWHU 0LVVLRQDU\ &KXUFK teaching Sunday school, participating in the worship band, and serving in many other areas, and is treasurer for multiple organizations, including Missionary Church North Central District. .HYLQŠV EHKLQG WKH VFHQHV ZRUN LV SULFHOHVV WR %HWKHOŠV FRPPXQLW\ ALUMNI AWARD RECIPIENTS 1 2 4 21 SPRING 2021
