Sara Hibbs has been named Director of Conference Services. Before serving in this role, she worked as the Events Manager for the Religious Freedom Institute in Washington, D.C., serving as the primary planner for their major gala. She also planned a variety of different events ranging from student seminars, conferences, book launches, and panel discussions in the D.C. area. She is a graduate of Baylor University in Waco, TX, with a B.A. in International Studies.

Jennifer Chaput ’04 has been promoted to Adult & Graduate Studies (AGS) Senior Advisor. In this role, she is now leading the AGS advising team in creating programming for students and organizing support. She previously served as AGS Academic Advisor.

Emily (Rodgers) Sherwood ’99 has been promoted to Director of Development and Alumni Engagement where her role has expanded to include fundraising, donor relations and scholarships, as well as working with her first love – alumni. She has served at Bethel for 13 years, most recently as Director of Alumni Relations.

Kristie Nave ‘14 has been named Assistant Director of Development and Alumni Engagement. In this role, she will be assisting with the functions of the Institutional Advancement office, building relationships with alumni, hosting events and creating opportunities for alumni and donors to connect with Bethel.

Cameron Matteson ‘15 has been promoted to Director of Infrastructure Services where he will continue work on developing and maintaining behind-the-scenes systems and looking at ways Bethel’s technical infrastructure needs to be changed as technologies advance. He previously served as Infrastructure Support Engineer.

Jeff Salisbury ‘03 has been promoted to Director of Everest-Rohrer where he will partner with Conference Services and Audio-Visual to plan and execute campus events as well as manage the Everest-Rohrer Chapel/Fine Arts Center and the Paqui & Brian Kelly Auditorium. He previously served as Event
Technologies Manager.

Andrea Blake ’08, ’18 has been promoted to Director of User Support where she will serve as the primary contact for tech support and IT projects, and she will continue to oversee help desk personnel. She previously served as the Help Desk Coordinator.

Retirements

Bill and Debbie Jones are retiring in August as full-time missionaries-in-residence after serving Bethel for 25 years. At that time, they will be serving part-time to help transition in their replacements, Jeremy and Mindy Tice.

Donna Faudree will be retiring as Director of Administrative Software after serving Bethel for 9 years.

President Bellefeuille Honored as a YWCA Woman of the Year

Bethel President Barbara K. Bellefeuille, Ed.D., has been named a 2022 YWCA Woman of the Year. She was honored on Oct. 20 at the YWCA Tribute Dinner and Auction at Gillespie Conference Center in South Bend. The evening included a silent auction, dinner, live auction and awards program. The Tribute Dinner and Auction honored “five remarkable women who are empowering individuals and lifting up our community through education.” In addition to Bellefeuille, Chancellor Susan Elrod of Indiana University South Bend; President Rebecca Stoltzfus of Goshen College; Chancellor Tia Robinson-Cooper of Ivy Tech, South Bend/Elkhart; and President Katie Conboy of Saint Mary’s College were also recognized.

Mihut Publishes Manuscript with Oxford University Press

Cristian Mihut ‘97, Professor of Philosophy, has published his book “Gracious Forgiveness – A Theological Retrieval” with Oxford University Press. The book develops an aspect of forgiveness from the often-neglected biblical image of bearing burdens. It articulates a distinctive framework for divine forgiveness that takes seriously narrative, ritual, and metaphor. It considers forgiveness not only as an ethical phenomenon but also an aesthetic one. And, it advances a richer account of a forgiving self that can also embody virtuous anger. DeCelles Speaks at Mathematics Conference

Amy DeCelles, Associate Professor of Mathematics, gave a talk in January at the Joint Mathematics Meetings, a conference hosted in Boston by the American Mathematical Society. Her talk was titled “The Automorphic Heat Kernel and Ladders of Zeta Functions.”

Alice Ramos, Associate Professor of Mathematics, passed Exam P: Probability, offered by the Society of Actuaries (SOA) and the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) as the first in a series of exams required for full certification as an actuary.

Cathy Bareiss, Professor of Computer Science, received a recent award from the Consortium for Computing Sciences in Colleges and has worked for them as needed over the past year.

Doctorates Earned

Kristen Richmond, Assistant Professor of Nursing, finished her DNP in December from Regis College. Her DNP project was, “Coping Skills Assessment and Training for Newly Graduated Registered Nurses During the Covid-19 Pandemic.”

Abbie Mantor, Adjunct Professor of Biblical Studies, earned her Ph.D. in biblical studies from Asbury Theological Seminary after successfully defending her doctoral dissertation on Jan. 6. Her dissertation is titled, “Caring for the Sufferers Among Us: The Book of Job through the Lens of Classic Rhetoric and Modern Psychological Trauma Studies.”
