Volleyball
Coming off a successful 2013 campaign, the Bethel volleyball team looks to rise once again to the top of the Crossroads League in 2014. Returning for the Pilots are 2013 All-Crossroads League selections, seniors Aubrey Husak, who will lead the Bethel offense, and Amanda Troyer, who will anchor the Pilots’ defensive efforts. With a great mix of experience and youth, the Pilots will navigate through a tough schedule with hopes of qualifying for the NAIA National Tournament for the first time under the leadership of Head Coach Kevin Ulmer.

Women’s Cross Country
Led by five upperclassmen, the Bethel women’s cross country team looks to compete at a high level and improve both individual and team performances. As a freshman in 2013, Taylor Gillman posted the best individual time of the season for the Pilots with two finishes at 20:37, while sophomore Gabriela Salas joined her as the only other runner to break the 21-minute mark with a 20:50. Both ladies are returning to compete for the Pilots in 2014.

Men’s Cross Country
Boasting a 16-member roster for the 2014 season, the Bethel men’s cross country team will compete at six different meets in Indiana, Michigan, Illinois and Kentucky to prepare for the Crossroads League Championships hosted by Taylor University in November.
Continued on p. 20Jordan Annis, a 2013 All-Crossroads League selection, will return for his sophomore season alongside classmate Joel Hartman, who posted the best individual time on the team last season (26:32).

Women’s Soccer
Under first-year Head Coach Jamie Lindvall, the Bethel women’s soccer program is ready to make another stride forward. Coach Lindvall and his staff have worked to build a new culture and a new approach, which they hope will pay off early in the season. The Pilots will enjoy home-field advantage more this season than they have as of late with 11 contests scheduled to be played at Morey Field on the campus of Bethel College.

Men’s Soccer
Bethel looks to build on the bright spots of 2013 heading into the 2014 season. The Pilots return their top-two offensive weapons in senior Ricardo Carvalho from Salvador, Brazil, and sophomore Ricardo Zambonino from Quito, Ecuador. Along with both being named All-Crossroads League First Team selections, both were NCCAA North Central All-Region team members and were joined by sophomore Lukas Muszong and junior Pedro Amaral, who are both back on the field for Bethel this fall. The Pilots kicked off the 2014 season on Aug. 26 and began Crossroads League regular-season competition on Sept. 27.

Women’s Golf
After an 11th place finish at the NAIA National Championships in the spring of 2014, the Bethel women’s golf team said goodbye to two very talented players in Geandra Almeida and Erin DeVries. Two lone upperclassmen are left on the roster to lead the Pilots into the fall of 2014. Bethel’s first goal will be to qualify for the NCCAA National Championships held in October, and then they will set their sights on the spring of 2015, where they will compete for the Crossroads League Championship and their 11th straight trip to the NAIA National Tournament.

Men’s Golf
The Pilots return with a very familiar look from a season ago, losing no players to graduation. After finishing fourth at the Crossroads League Championships in 2013, seniors Brian Ulrich, Drew Day, Griffyn Carpenter and Taran Kennedy look to improve their standings and qualify for the NAIA National Championships, which are held in the spring.

Women’s Tennis
The Bethel women will be looking to fill the hole left by four-time All-Crossroads League selection and three-time NCCAA All-American Molly O’Grady. The 2014-’15 roster features a trio of seniors, Bethany Blodgett, Taryn Johnson and Samantha Lukas, who have a wealth of experience, while the roster also boasts five incoming freshmen that will give the Lady Pilots some good depth.

Men’s Tennis
The Bethel men return a wealth of experience with 12 returning players on the 2014-’15 roster. With seven upperclassmen returning to the roster in 2014, the Pilots will look to make strides in the Crossroads League.

Women’s Basketball
A new era of Lady Pilot basketball has begun as first-year Head Coach Andrew Wodrich ’07 takes the helm in 2014-‘15. Wodrich, a 2007 Bethel graduate, leaves the NCAA DI Central Michigan women’s basketball coaching staff to take his first head coaching position this season. The Lady Pilots finished the 2013-’14 season with a 12-19 record, missing the NAIA and NCCAA National Tournaments. Returning for the Lady Pilots is Crossroads League Freshman of the Year, Angelique Moore, and Crossroads League All-Freshman selection Aimee Swihart.

Men’s Basketball
After advancing to the ‘Elite 8’ at the NAIA National Championship Tournament in 2014, the Bethel men’s basketball team is focused on a return trip to Point Lookout, Mo., in 2015. The Pilots graduated five very productive seniors from the 2013-’14 squad in Landon Booker, Brandon Gerber, Michael Mislan, Ryan Benner and Patrick Oetting. They will be looking to seniors and 2014 All-Crossroads League selections Zach Miller and Matt Schauss for leadership and productivity on both the offensive and defensive side of the basketball.
