Rick Munroe, CFRE

Rick Munroe, CFRE, vice president for institutional advancement, comes to Bethel College with a wealth of experience in leadership and fundraising. He most recently served for 11 years under that same title at Thomas University in Thomas, Ga., and began his career in higher education as an annual fund director at Trine University (then Tri-State) in 2002. Prior to that, he served as an officer with the United States Navy, where he managed 100 sailors before returning to civilian life as a production manager in the automotive industry for 11 years.

Munroe started his new position on Sept. 15 and is eager to make connections in the community to further Bethel’s mission. We took a few moments to talk with him about his future aspirations, past accomplishments and return to his Indiana roots.

What sold you on Bethel College?
I looked for a school with potential. Bethel has that. Students are searching for a place to make a difference in the world. Bethel is a place where they can do that.

What excites you about Bethel’s future?
I’m most excited about Bethel’s opportunity for growth — both in enrollment and fundraising — and in the community. The further I can help move Bethel ahead, the greater its influence will be in the region, and that will strengthen a Bethel degree.

What would you consider to be your greatest professional achievement?
My greatest achievement was being a part of the transformation of Thomas University, increasing enrollment by 75 percent in eight years and raising more money in 11 years than what had been raised in the history of the college. We took that money and transformed the campus as well as the community’s perception of the university, expanding its value and influence.

Tell us about your family and your Indiana roots.
I grew up in Fort Wayne and much of my family is still there — including my parents, so I’m looking forward to spending time with them. I’ve been married to my wife, Rebecca, for 26 years and together we have four adult children.

What would you like alumni, students and friends of the college to know?
If you haven’t reconnected with your alma mater, think about it. We want you to come back and be involved — to be in touch. For students, we’re going to raise money for the scholarships, programs and facilities you need. For everyone, we’re going to build the value of Bethel College.
