Career and Internship Fair Draws 100 Employers to Campus
On Feb. 19, the Career Services Office hosted its second annual career and internship fair, with nearly 100 employers on hand to recruit Bethel students and alumni. More than 30 Bethel alumni represented their organizations with booths at the fair. The event drew hundreds of job seekers, including Bethel students and members of the community.

Bethel Publications Receive Gold MarCom Awards
Bethel publications received two Gold MarCom awards — one for the Bethel Magazine and one for a collection of admission materials that includes traditional admission’s view book, visit brochure and general information brochure. More than 6,500 entries were submitted worldwide by corporate marketing and communication departments, public relations and advertising agencies, design shops, production companies and freelancers. The awards, presented by the Association of Marketing & Communications Professionals, recognize outstanding creative achievement by professionals from throughout the United States, Canada and 15 other countries. Judges are industry professionals who look for work that exceeds a high standard of excellence and serves as a benchmark for the industry.

Chenoweth Testifies to Indiana’s Senate Judiciary Committee
In February 2015, President Gregg Chenoweth, Ph.D., spent time at the State House in Indianapolis. He spoke to the Senate Judiciary Committee in support of the Indiana Religious Freedom Restoration Act and spent time with two Bethel graduates, State Representative Tim Wesco ’14 and Press Secretary Intern Calvin Ray ’14. Students Embrace Digital Detox to Build Community
From Feb. 2-6, students in the men’s residence halls participated in the eighth annual “Dude Week,” voluntarily committing to fast from video games, television, and/or smart phones. The women’s residence halls followed suit the next week, participating in “Babe Week.” Both weeks featured nightly activities designed to help students unplug and focus on fostering community. ReFuel Worship Conference Held at Bethel
Five Michiana churches partnered with Bethel to offer “ReFuel,” a one-day conference for church worship teams and leaders in January 2015. The joint effort was coordinated by staff from Nappanee Missionary Church, Grace Community Church, St. Mark Missionary Church, Wakarusa Missionary Church and New Life Fellowship. David Cummings, worship ministries pastor at Nappanee Missionary Church, says the goal of the event was to energize and refresh worship leaders who spend so much time ministering to others. Musician and song writer Jared Anderson was the keynote speaker.

Bethel Recognized as U.S. News Top Tier College for 11th Consecutive Year
Bethel remained 19th on the list of the Midwest’s Best Baccalaureate Colleges in the 2015 edition of “America’s Best Colleges” by U.S. News Media Group. In addition to the college’s overall ranking, Bethel is positioned highly in several important specific sections, including seventh for freshman to sophomore retention, eighth in the percentage of freshmen in the top 25 percent of their high school class, 12th for percentage of classes under 20 students and 12th for graduation rate. Nationally there are nearly 370 schools in the Best Regional Colleges category and Bethel’s overall score places the college in the top 16.8 percent of all baccalaureate colleges.

Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Program Expands
Bethel College’s Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program has expanded to now include a major as well as the previously offered minor. The flexible degree, which has an emphasis on real-world experience, allows graduates to work anywhere in the world and equips them to meet the communication needs of an increasingly global economy. The degree is double-major friendly, working particularly well with intercultural studies, English and writing, and Christian ministries, although many other majors are an option. Students who want to pursue mission work overseas will especially benefit from the new major, which will allow them to obtain gainful employment compatible with their passion.

New Worship Arts Major
In the fall of 2015, Bethel will launch a new worship arts major and minor, designed to prepare students to lead in a variety of worship settings. The program consists of a core curriculum and three tracks from which students may choose: media arts, theatre arts or Biblical theology. A distinctive feature of the program is its academic structure, with it being housed within the religion and philosophy department. Three other departments — music,
visual arts and theatre arts — will contribute significantly to the academic instruction for the major. This interdisciplinary approach will help students develop a wide range of skills and equip them theologically and creatively.

Master of Arts in Counseling Returns
Bethel College is enrolling students for the Master of Arts in Counseling program, set to begin in the fall of 2015. The degree, previously offered at Bethel in the 1990s and early 2000s, has been frequently requested by alumni of Bethel’s undergraduate programs. Students can specialize in addictions, mental health, and marriage and family, and will be prepared to work as counselors and therapists in a number of clinical settings. Bethel Hosts Heritage Luncheon
In October, Bethel College hosted a distinguished luncheon for all members of the Heritage Roll of Honor — those who have made a provision for Bethel in their estate plan or by a deferred gift.
