The whole crew in Grenada. (Tom is in the solid red shirt.)

Recently I had the opportunity to lead 10 Bethel students to the Caribbean island of Grenada, which is located northeast of Venezuela. It’s a small country known as the “Island of Spice” because of its production of nutmeg and mace.

Our group partnered with Courtney Richards (’87) who was on staff at Bethel in the ’90’s and is currently a missionary to the Caribbean.

During our time in Grenada we spent our days: in the schools sharing Jesus with students, doing community outreach and street evangelism, visiting a disabled person’s home and painting at the local church. (Oh, and of course we visited the beach a few times and went for a hike in the jungle.)

As a leader, the most exciting part of the trip was watching the  students get hands on in ministry. Each of our students gave all they had to love on and impact the lives of the people we came in contact with. I could not have asked for a better group of students to take with me, and I highly encourage all students to take part in a short-term mission experience at some point in the their college career.

Tom is a 2007 Bethel graduate with a B.A. in Youth Ministries and Adolescent Studies. He works in the admission office at Bethel. Learn more about him.
