Summer is always a busy time of year for our maintenance staff – not only are they keeping up with grounds maintenance and helping with the many summer activities on campus, they also have quite a list of campus improvements to make before traditional students return in the fall.

This summer is no exception. Here is a list of projects that took place in June and July:

  • The Dining Commons was completely renovated
  • The Bowen Museum received a facelift
  • New roof on the Bowen Library
  • Replace 2- HVAC units in the Bowen Library
  • In Oakwood/Slater Hall, private showers are replacing the common showers on each floor along with a new domestic hot water heater and storage tanks
  • In Brenneman Hall, all of the HVAC equipment is being replaced
  • In Goodman, new weight rooms are being created with much help from the athletics staff
  • Main entrance center island, landscape was renovated
  • Octorium HVAC replaced
  • New windows for the Ceramic building, along with new air scrubbing equimpent
  • Wiekamp metal roof gets repainted
  • Brenneman Hall Showers get replaced
  • Huffman staff lounge gets remodeled
  • Asphalt resurfacing in Goodman/Wiekamp parking lots, and other roads around campus.
  • Flower bed installed along LaSalle Street in front of Everest-Rohrer Chapel/Fine Arts Center

Of course the biggest renovation has been the dining commons project. Here is a photo that was taken two weeks ago, showing the serving area as you look towards the main entry:

Here is an “after” photo that I took today, showing the same area:

As you can see, we are making progress! Here are more photos of the Dining Commons:
