Stratford Experience 2014

Stratford Experience
This past summer, 15 students and four faculty/staff members attended the Stratford Festival in Ontario, Canada, for seven days. Underwritten by a generous donor, the only cost to students was their passport and food for the week. While there, the group saw 11 out of the 12 plays being produced. Some of the favorites included “Mother Courage,” “King John,” “Alice Through the Looking Glass” and “Crazy for You.” In addition to seeing shows, the group also enjoyed backstage tours, exploring the costume/prop storage, watching two sets being changed, attending an opening night gala, and meetings with one of the actors and the creative planning director. Senior Tim Becze met one of the master electricians and was able to watch “Crazy for You” from the light booth, while junior Kolee New met one of the sound technicians and watched “Man of La Mancha” from the sound booth. One student commented that it was an influential cultural and eye-opening experience to what theatre can achieve and that the experience has influenced his design ideas for the coming year. Students interested in applying to go on this annual trip next summer should contact the theatre department at 574.807.7747.
