At Bethel College, financial aid and scholarships help make a private, Christian education

possible for many students. In fact, 97 percent of Bethel students receive some sort of financial

assistance.

This year, Bethel launched the Bethel College Rising Entrepreneur Scholarship. It celebrates

innovation and entrepreneurship in Michiana by providing a scholarship to a student who has

completed the Startup Moxie (formerly St. Joe CEO)

entrepreneurship program. Through Startup Moxie, high

school students are mentored by local business leaders.

The goal is to prepare students to be entrepreneurial

thinkers and contribute to economic development and

sustainable communities.

Keenen Boyce, a 2017 graduate of South Bend Career

Academy and now a freshman at Bethel, is the first

recipient of this award.

In addition to earning a specific GPA, SAT and ACT

scores, students applying for the Rising Entrepreneur

Scholarship must have participated in Startup Moxie and submit an application. Boyce decided

to make a video focusing on his integrity, work ethic, communication and initiative.

“[St. Joe CEO] taught me that I have the potential to have an impact on my city,” said Boyce in

his video. “I was born and raised in South Bend. … For a time it was a place I was trying to escape.

I want to give back, and that’s true also for when I go to college. … I want to be an involved

student, mentally and physically.”

This specific scholarship celebrates Bethel’s priority of creating a culture of innovation while

also investing in the entrepreneurial spirit of our region.
